Interesting to see that just 4 years ago this was the lay of the land in the United States. That's a lot of red Republican votes I can see there.
As Obama keeps telling us, "its a time for change..."

I bet this year's county map doesn't look so different. A lot of the land mass of the US is sparsely populated Republican lands. The Democratic votes, on the other hand congregate in the bigger urban centres. I think you might be surprised at how similar this map will look after tonight's vote.
(The UK is little different in its political demography, with vast swathes of rural Tory lands dotted with small centres of urban Labourites).
